Brügge: Backpacker Hostel oder Budget Hotel?

Kleines Cafe an einem Kanal in BrüggeDas heutige Brügge geht auf den normannischen Nordeseehafen bryggia aus dem 9. Jahrhundert zurück. Von Wolle bis Wein wurden Waren aus ganz Europa in den ansässigen Hansekontoren, auf Märkten und Messen gehandelt. Das Haus der Familie Van der Beurse wurde zur ersten Börse weltweit. Mit der Versandung der Zwin-Mündung verlor Brügge nach und nach den Status als reichste Stadt Nordeuropas, auch der Nordseehafen Zeebrügge konnte diese Bedeutung nicht zurückbringen. Von den alten Zeiten zeugt der mittelalterliche Stadtkern, der heute zum UNESCO-Weltkulturerbe zählt. Ein Blick von den mit Windmühlen bestückten Wallanlagen fällt auf Pflasterstraßen, Reie genannte Kanäle und hübsche Brügger Altbauten. Ein Blick aus der Nähe lohnt sich u.a. beim Beginenhof, bei der Liebfrauenkirche mit Michelangelos Madonna, bei den Tuchhallen, dem Belfried und dem Zisterzienserkloster Ter Doest.
