Córdoba, die zweitgrößte Stadt Argentiniens und Provinzhauptstadt der gleichnamigen Region, hat zwei Gesichter: das eine wird durch den Namen La Docta die Gelehrte gut umschrieben, denn neben zahlreichen Museen sowie Bildungs- und Lehrinstituten liegt die älteste Universität Argentiniens, die Universidad Nacional de Córdoba in der 1,3-Millionen-Stadt. Die Studenten, die sich besonders im zentralen Viertel Nueva Córdoba aufhalten, verjüngen die Stadt merklich. Sie feiern ausgesprochen gerne zu Cuarteto-Musik, einer schnellen Tanzmusik mit europäischen und karibischen Elementen. Stadt der Glocken, so der andere Name, bezeichnet die kolonialen Bauten im Zentrum, die im 17. Und 18. Jahrhundert von Jesuiten errichtet worden und heute unter Denkmalschutz stehen, teilweise zum UNESCO-Weltkulturerbe gehören. Die Stadt ist ein idealer Ausgangspunkt für Reisen in alle Gegenden Argentiniens. Einen Veranstaltungskalender besitzt die Stadt nicht, zum Ausgehen am besten also Tipps von Einheimischen einholen. Jährliche Festlichkeiten finden vor allem im Sommer in den umliegenden Touristenresorts statt, z.B. das Folklorefestival von Cosquín oder das Rockfestival am Lago San Roque.
