Die Hauptstadt von Irland liegt im Osten der Insel, an der Mündung der Liffey in die Dublin Bay. Dieser Fluss trennt die beiden Stadtteile Northside und das wohlhabendere Southside voneinander, in West-Ost-Richtung markieren O'Connell Street, Grafton Street und Harcourt Street wichtige Achsen der Stadt. In diesem Zentrum sind zahlreiche historische Sehenswürdigkeiten, moderne Einkaufsmöglichkeiten sowie der Park St. Stephen's Green zu finden. Das Stadtbild ist geprägt durch die unterschiedlichsten Baustile und Gebäude: winzige Backsteinhäuschen im Arbeiterviertel Cabra, die geometrisch gestaltete Siedlung Marino oder komplett erhaltene Straßenzüge im Georgianischen Baustil. Zu den historischen und architektonischen Highlights von Dubling gehören Dublin Castle, Trinity College, National Gallery, National Library of Ireland, Saint Patrick's Cathedral und Christ Church Cathedral. Abend zieht es Touristen sowie einen Teil der 500.000 Dubliner in die Bars, Clubs und Restaurants entlang der Liffey und ins kultige Kultur- und Gastro-Viertel Temple Bar. Das ist Dublins Kulturviertel (vor allem für Touristen) mit einem munteren Nachtleben. Temple Bar ist ein Stadtteil am Südufer des Flusses Liffey im Zentrum von Dublin. Im Gegensatz zu den umgebenden Stadtvierteln hat Temple Bar sich seine mittelalterlichen Straßenzüge mit vielen engen kopfsteingepflasterten Gassen erhalten. |
