Die Stadt an den Flüssen Olona und Lambro und Leonardo da Vincis Navigli-Kanälen wurde um 400 v.u.Z. von Kelten als Mediolanum besiedelt und um 220 v.u.Z. von den Römern erobert. Seit dieser Zeit ist Mailand durch die römisch-italienische Kultur geprägt. Zu bewundern gibt es deshalb etwa das mittelalterliche Castello Sforzesco, den gotischen Duomo St. Maria Nascente (Mailänder Dom) und das klassizistische Teatro alla Scala (Mailänder Scala).
Die Millionenstadt im Norden Italiens ist nicht nur Partnerstadt von Chicago, Krakau, Lyon, Melbourne, Sao Paulo und Toronto und das Herz der Lombardei, sondern auch ein Mekka der Medien-, Design- und Modewelt. Erste Adresse für Shoppingtouren durch Mailand ist die Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, eine prunkvolle Passage zwischen der Piazza del Duomo und der Piazza della Scala.
Nach dem Anprobieren und Einkaufen der Mailänder Designer hat man sich ein Päuschen verdient. Einmal sollte man sich ins Just Cavalli Viale Camoens im Sempione-Park wagen. Das kultig-urige Le Trottoir à La Darsena lädt zum Schlemmen auf die italienische Art ein, das El Brellin am Alzaia Naviglio Grande zum Geniessen im Garten. Abends dann das Kontrastprogramm im stylischen Tocqueville, einer Bar mit Diskothek. |
