Marrakech, die Perle des Südens, spiegelt die ganze Vielfalt des orientalischen Lebens wieder. V.a. in Medina findet man prachtvolle Paläste und Ruinen aus glanzvollen Zeiten. Auf Marrakechs Straßen tummeln sich elegant gekleidete Marokkaner, junge Mädchen im Mini-Rock, Bettler, Gaukler, selbsternannte Führer, Marktschreier, Handwerker, Wasserverkäufer und Nomaden aus der Wüste neben kamerabehängten Touristengruppen. In keinem anderen Land der Welt spürt man die Gegensätze so sehr, wie in Marrakech – auch naturell. In der Hitze der Innenstadt pulsiert das Leben, um die Stadt breiten sich prachtvolle Landschaften aus. Der Djemaa el Fna-Platz ", der Platz der Geköpften ist zweifellos die Attraktion der Stadt. Am späten Nachmittag wird er von den Darbietungen der Akrobaten, Tänzer, Schlangenbeschwörer, Märchenerzähler und Musikanten beherrscht. Der Platz wird von allerlei exotischen Ständen gesäumt. An einem Stand werden getrocknete Echsen, Kröten, Pfoten, Häute und die verschiedensten undefinierbaren Gebräue verkauft. Sie sind Wundermittel gegen alles. Am nächsten duftet es nach Rosenwasser und allerlei Salben und Wässerchen.
