| Sorrent, oder italienisch Sorrento, ist eine Stadt mit rund 16.500 Einwohnern in der Provinz Neapel. Sie liegt an der Nordküste der Halbinsel von Sorrent und blickt über schwarze Steilklippen auf den Golf von Neapel. Seit über 2.000 Jahren ist dieses Fleckchen berühmt für seine Sonnenuntergänge im Golf und die Orangen- und Zitronengärten, für die die Amalfiküste bekannt ist. Typische Produkte aus Sorrent werden mit dem Zitronenlikör Limoncello veredelt. Die Beliebtheit der Stadt ist auch auf seine günstige Lage als Startpunkt für Ausflüge zu wichtigen Sehenswürdigkeiten der Umgebung zurückzuführen. Die Felseninsel Capri ist nur etwa 5 km entfernt, mit der Bahn sind Pompeji und Herkulaneum sowie natürlich Neapel in weniger als einer Stunde erreichbar, was sich für einen Wanderausflug auf den Vesuv empfiehlt. Wieder zurück in Sorrent gibt die Villa Pollio, das Landhaus einer wohlhabenden Römerin, ein Zeugnis der frühen Nutzung des Ortes als Erholungsort der Schönen und Reichen. Wenn es einmal nicht der Strand sein soll. lädt tagsüber die Via S. Cesareo zum Bummeln ein, nachts verwandelt sich die Piazza Torquato Tasso in einen Boulevard der Nachtschwärmer. |
