Hostels in Trapani - Günstige Unterkunft in Trapani
An der Westspitze Siziliens liegt die achtgrößte Stadt der Insel, Trapani. Die 70.000-Einwohner-Stadt nimmt die Gesamtheit einer Landzunge am Fuß des Monte Erice, von dem man einen traumhaften Blick auf die Stadt und das Mittelmeer hat, ein. Wie die meisten Städte im Mittelmeerraum hat auch Trapani eine lange Geschichte vorzuweisen. Sie beginnt mit den Sikanen im 9. Jhd. v. Chr. und fährt mit der Entwicklung zu einer der wichtigsten Hafenstädte Siziliens fort. Im Zweiten Weltkrieg wurde San Pietro, der älteste Teil der Stadt, zerstört und mühsam wieder aufgebaut. Der immer noch wichtige Hafen verbindet Trapani über Tragflügelboote in einer Viertelstunde mit den vorgelagerten Ägadischen Inseln. Die Stadt selbst hat mehrere sehenswerte Kirchen, z.B. die barocke Kathedrale San Lorenzo, und Museen, z.B. das Salzmuseum, das sich mit den Salinen vor Trapani beschäftigt, die das Selbstbild der Stadt mitgeprägt haben. So soll Cervantes die Windmühlen der Salinen in seinem "Don Quichotte" verewigt haben. Wer das italienische Lebensgefühl spüren möchte, sollte sich eine Unterkunft ohne Frühstück suchen und dieses auf einem Markt oder einem Café mit den Einheimischen einnehmen.
